Corning took an early lead at Baileyville Sunday afternoon as Mitchell Heideman lead the game off with a home run to right field. Baileyville countered with six runs in the bottom of the 1st with a multitude of timely hits and good base running. Phillip Steinlage (3-0) finished the 1st inning off for Corning and got the win in relief going 4 1/3 innings. The Corning offense exploded in the 3rd inning getting seven runs. An RBI single by Ben Hasenkamp started the scoring barrage, and a two out two run ground rule double by Alex Steinlage sparked the big inning. Corning added another seven runs in the fourth inning highlighted by Alex Steinlage's towering two run home run. Matt Steinlage's 2 run line drive to right field in the top of the 5th helped cap Corning's offensive night. Corning's defense held Baileyville to two unearned runs over the final four innings to earn the win in five innings by a score of 18-8. Mitchell Heideman led the Corning offense going 3-4 with a walk and 4 RBI's. Rodney Steinlage (3 hits, 2 RBI's) and Ben Hasenkamp (2 hits, 1 RBI) helped lead the way for Corning. Pending a suspended game against Centralia, Corning begins the season with a 3-0 record heading into a Tuesday night tilt at St. Benedict.
