In their first game Saturday, Doniphan Co. avenged a previous loss to Ottawa in the state tourney by defeating them 6-5 and sending them home.
D.C. was led by Colin Greaser, the Subway Player of the Game, who finished 2-2 with a pair of walks and three runs scored. He also had an amazing diving catch in center field.
Jerod Hawkins was the winning pitcher, throwing the final five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out six.
Ottawa finishes the season 31-7.
In game two, Doniphan Co. ran out of pitching and Pratt (32-3) blew them out 16-0 in four innings to win their seventh state championship.
D.C. took second place for the second time in three years.
Blake Haynes started and was roughed up for seven runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Pratt scored seven in the first, five in the second, and four in the third.
Doniphan Co. finishes the season 24-10.
2010 FINAL LEGION STANDINGS
Doniphan County legion baseball is still alive in the 2010 State Tournament at Marysville after a comeback 10-8 victory against Garnett in an elimination game. Subway Player of the Game honors went to Bryce Paden who pitched five innings in relief of Colin Greaser and added a couple hits and three RBI. Doniphan County scored twice in the first inning and led 3-2 going into the third. Garnett scored five runs on three hits to take the comanding lead but DC chipped away with runs in the fourth and fifth then exploded in the sixth scoring five times to retake a 9-7 advantage. Greaser and Blake Haynes each scored twice while Brett Hontz added two hits and Jared Hawkins was 3-4 with 3 batted in.
Doniphan County is now 22-9, they lost to Ottawa on Thursday night 9-5 as Ottawa broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning and held on for the win. Derek Nold pitched two innings and had a two-run single while Elliot Nold took the loss in four innings allowing four hits and runs. Jerad Hawkins was 2-4 and eight different players added a base hit against the defending state champs (Ottawa 30-5). Only four teams remain in the state tourney field.
DC LEGION BASEBALL WINS STATE TOURNEY OPENER

The Doniphan County American Legion Baseball team won their state tournament opener 10-0 Wednesday against Ellis in six innings. Jerad Hawkins tossed a one-hit shutout and DC took a 2-0 led into the sixth inning when they erupted for eight runs on six hits plus a couple errors. Eight players scored at least a run with Colin Greaser and Blake Haynes scoring twice. Hawkins had two hits to back his pitching performance and was named Subway Player of the Game. Elliot and Derek Nold each had two hits as well and Derek drove in three runs while Bryce Paden added a pair of RBI.
Doniphan County is now 21-8 on the season and plays defending champ Ottawa (30-5) at
6:00 PM Thursday night live on KNZA 103.9 FM.
Ottawa defeated Beloit 4-2 while Pratt got a walkoff home run in the eighth to beat
Garnett 4-3 and host Marysville won 12-5 over Baxter Springs in the other
first-round action.

For the third straight year the Doniphan County American Legion baseball team has qualified for the state tournament. Post 55 defeated Seneca for the second straight night 14-7 in nine innings Friday to advance to Double-A State in Marysville.
At Somerset Park in Sabetha, DC carried a 3-2 led into the fourth inning when Seneca struck for five runs on five hits. However, Bryce Paden homered and Jerad Hawkins hit two long balls including a tying solo shot in the sixth to force extra innings. Hawkins would earn Subway Player of the Game honors by coming on to pitch the final four innings and allowing only one-hit while striking out six. Eric Huertter was on cruise control as Seneca's relief pitcher as well with nine K's until Doniphan County broke open the game with 7 runs in the ninth inning. Seven consequtive batters reached base with Colin Greaser, Blake Haynes and Paden coming through with RBI hits. Huertter did have three hits for Seneca who had to play without Kyle Haverkamp and ended their season as NEK league champs and a 16-7 overall record. Doniphan County is now 19-8 after winning five elimination games and will open state with the 1:00 PM contest on Wednesday in Marysville against Ellis who won Zone 7.
