The Clifton-Clyde American Legion Baseball team fell one win short of the state tournament as they lost to Beloit on Sunday afternoon, 13-8. Clifton-Clyde ends their very successful season at 21-8.

Beloit jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Clifton-Clyde scored 3 runs in the 3rd to cut the deficit in half, 6-3. Beloit would answer right back in the bottom of the 3rd with 3 runs of their own to push the lead to 9-3.  Beloit' s lead ballooned to 12-4, but Clifton-Clyde made things interesting with a 4 run 5th to pull within 12-8, but that would be as close as they would get as Beloit added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th.

Tyler Lambert led the offense, going 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Kyle Brown went 2-4 with two runs and 2 RBI, Levi Cyphers was 2-4 with 2 runs scored, and Barrett Winter had two hits.

The Clifton-Clyde legion team is 20-7 on the year and will continue their season on Sunday, July 25th as they will play Beloit in a winner take all zone championship game at 3 p.m.  The winner earns a berth at the state tourney in Marysville.

Clifton-Clyde kept their season alive with an 8-7 win over Concordia on Saturday and followed that with a win over Beloit 7-4.  Clifton-Clyde scored two in the first, but the big inning was the top of the 3rd as they scored 4 runs on 5 hits to take a 6-1 lead.  Zach DeMars got the win in relief of Chris Sipe and was able to strike out the last two Beloit batters with the tying run at the plate to preserve the victory.  Clifton-Clyde's offense collected 14 hits as Brayden Bloomfield, Kyle Brown, Tyler Lambert, Levi Cyphers, Weston Ohlde, Mitchell Long, and Barrett Winter had 2 hits each. Winter had the loudest hit, a solo home run in the 5th and he along with Lambert drove in two runs.

Clifton-Clyde fell to Beloit 8-6 on Friday. Clifton-Clyde scored 4 runs in the 4th to take a 4-3 lead, but Beloit tied the game at 4 in the top of the 5th.  The score remained tied until the 7th when Beloit exploded for 4 runs and then withstood a furious bottom of the 7th rally by Clifton-Clyde to move on in winner's bracket play.

Brayden Bloomfield led the offense, going 3-4 with 2 runs scored while Weston Ohlde was 2-3 with an RBI and Zach DeMars went 2-4 with a run scored.
