 Just like the baseball team, the Holton softball team completed an undefeated run through the Big 7 to win the 2008 league championship on Wednesday. Holton completed their run with a sweep of Jeff West by scores of 10-0 and 7-3.
     
Lizz Dunn tossed a six-inning perfect game in the opener with 11 strikeouts. Carleen McManigal had a two-run-triple and Jen Cordell added a three-run homer, her sixth of the season.

Holton fell behind 2-1 in the second contest before taking the lead for good in the fifth with RBI hits by Taylor Wells and Cordell. Kyane Stortzum had two hits for Jeff West including a home run as the Lady Tigers fall to 6-10.

Holton takes a 14-2 record to the 4A Regional at Basehor Linwood where they play Hiawatha on Monday. The bottom side of the bracket includes two other league teams as Jeff West plays third seed Royal Valley also on Monday with the semifinals and championship to be played Tuesday.


The Jeff West baseball team is back even at 10-10 on the season following two losses at Silver Lake Wednesday. The Eagles won the first game 13-3 then took the night-cap 6-4. Jeff West is the fourth seed in their home 4A Regional next week and host Royal Valley on Monday. Topeka Hayden is the top seed and earned the bye. Holton baseball is seeded second and will host Perry Lecompton on Monday at 6:00 with the winner to get Tonganoxie or Atchison in Tuesday's semifinals.


The Doniphan County baseball team is the top seed in their 3A Regional at Wathena next week with a record of 14-3 they await the winner of Monday's matchup between McLouth and Maur Hill/Mount Academy. Oskaloosa also gets a bye as the second seed (12-4) and plays the Pleasant Ridge and ACCHS winner on Wednesday in the semifinals.


The local 3A Softball Regional is at Pleasant Ridge with McLouth the top seed 17-0. They play Wednesday versus the winner of P-Ridge and ACCHS. Doniphan County is the sixth seed and plays at Wellsville on Monday with Oskaloosa awaiting the winner.
