The Wathena boys and Jackson Heights girls won very competitive Delaware Valley League Track championships at McLouth on Thursday. Wathena finished four points ahead of Jeff County North with the Jackson Heights boys third. The Lady Cobras were six points ahead of Jeff County North followed by Troy, Doniphan West and Horton.
Individually, Abe Noll of JCN won the 200 and 400 while Brantley Wareham of Jackson Heights took gold in both hurdle races. Other local boys champs including Michael Tinio in the 100, Colby Rhode in the long jump and Brady Hoffman in the high jump, Josh Kearney in the triple jump, Eli Henry in the pole vault, Brent Heintzelman in the shot put, Jacob Sanchez in the discus, and Ethan Robinson in the javelin.
Girls 2008 DVL champs include: Lisa Weishaar of JCN in the 100, 200 and 300 hurdles, Haley Wellman of Horton in the 1600 and 3200 and Scholtz of D-West in the shot put and discus. The Jackson Heights girls won all three relays events while other gold medalists were Nicole Rockhold in the triple jump, A. Pickman in the long jump, A. Kearney in the high jump, Megan Weishaar in the pole vault, Natalie Pederson in the javelin, Hannah Simpson in the 400, Anne Courtney in the 100 hurdles, and Amelia Noll in the 800.
