The Frankfort, Maur Hill/Mount Academy and Jeff West golf teams have qualified for state while Holton and Sabetha both finished third at Regionals on Monday. Several other local athletes battled the tough wind and shot well enough to qualify for state as individuals.
Jeff West placed second to Topeka Hayden in the 4A competition at Atchison as the Tigers were led by Alex Baker with a round of 88 and Adam Fetcher who carded a 90 to place ninth overall.
Holton was third as a team at the Clay Center 4A regional while Hiawatha was eighth just ahead of Royal Valley. The Wildcats did qualify to individuals for state as Nolan Pahmahmie medalled second with a 78 and Damian Lake placed fourth with an 81. Kevin Middlemist fired an 84 to tie for tenth but just missed the state cut.
In Class 3A, Maur Hill/Mount Academy won the Sabetha Regional by just three strokes over KC Christian. The Bluejays finished a close third and Nemaha Valley was fifth. Both the Raiders and Sabetha had one state qualifier as Jerry Chase of the Jays placed third with an 82 and Logan Hiltibrand was ninth for Nemaha Valley with an 89. Adler Pruett of the Ravens was first with a 77 and Brent Arnold placed fifth with an 85. Horton's David Pottroff and both Jason Burger and Wade Kauffman of Sabetha carded 90's but just missed the state cut by one stroke.
Frankfort placed third as a team which is good enough to qualify for state in Class 2A. The Wildcats followed Sterling and Washington County and placed three linksters in the top 11. Riley Suther was fourth with an 85 while Kevin Horigan carded a 90 and Cody Anderson finished with an 96. Washington County had a trio in the top ten led by Eric Savage who placed second with an 81. Jake Miller and Alex Tiemeyer also helped the Tigers to a second place team finish and state appearance while competing Monday at Valley Heights. Tim Laughlin led the Mustangs with a 99 and Garret Kufahl was tops for Onaga with 105.
Finally in Class 1A, Centralia placed fifth at the Linn Regional but did have two individuals qualify for state. Patrick Bramhall was ninth with a 101 and Joel Winkler carded a 108 for the Panthers to finish in the top 15. Linn qualified Shelby Hatesohl who placed fifth with a 97 at Cedar Hills.
