Tucker Stone tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and allowed unearned runs in the sixth and seventh innings after the A's had built a 4-0 lead. Matt Minnis had two hits including an RBI double in the fourth to open the scoring. Jerad Hawkins allowed just the one hit and run but suffered the loss as Doniphan County finished runner up at the tournament for a second straight year and fell to 10-5 on the season. It was the third time Atchison beat Doniphan County and the first time all year that Post 55 failed to score five or more runs in a game. Atchison used five different pitchers in completing a 4-0 record at the 25th annual Tritsch Tourney, and the A's are now 12-2 on the season after winning seven of their last eight games. Stone put up MVP offensive numbers as well for Atchison going 6-13 in the tournament with four runs and three RBI. There was only 1 game of 14 in the 2008 Tritsch Tourney that was decided by less than five runs.
Doniphan County advanced to the championship tilt by knocking off Marysville 13-4 in six innings. Post 55 scored five runs in the first and added two in the second for an early 7-0 advantage. Jerad Hawkins pitched three plus innings in relief of Bryce Paden and surrendered just one hit for the win. Ethan Robinson connected on a three-run-homer in the first with two outs and Travis Twombly added a pair of hits and three RBI. Andrew Gilmore finished with four hits on the night and Justin Hawkins added three more runs to finish with 11 total in the tournament and Paden drove in eight runs total for Doniphan County.
After five games in four days, Doniphan County is scheduled to play at Pawnee City, Nebraska Tuesday at 8:00.
