Sabetha swept county rival Seneca in a twin bill 7-3 and 4-1 Sunday at Sommerset Park. Ross Whorton pitched six innings in the opener scattering five hits and striking out seven. Jacob Nagely led the Sabetha offense with a trio of hits while Ross Bruggeman, Brock Boldra and Kevin Moravec each added two. Moravec also had two RBI and Sabetha broke a tie in the fifth with four runs including a two-run-triple by Austin Keim. Adam Niehues had a two-run-single in the fourth for Seneca. Boldra and Joel Kramer each pitched complete game three-hitters in the night-cap, but Sabetha scored two runs in the first on a single by Quentin Edelman to improve to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in the league. Seneca falls to 4-13 overall and 3-5 in league play.
Atchison maintains a half-game lead over Sabetha in the league standings as the A's knocked off Centralia 7-6 Sunday before falling 15-4. Mike Minnis pitched six innings for Atchison before Matt Minnis got the save. Jeremiah Lautz had a two-run-homer for the A's. The second game last just four innings as Centralia used the long-ball to support Derek Surdez. Surdez was also 3-3 at the plate with his second three-run-homer of the day. Tyler Glatzcak also had a pair of homers for Centralia and Joe Olberding added a two-run-shot in game two. Drew Rivers was 5-6 on the day with three doubles for Atchison as they improve to 6-2 in the league.
Holton made quick work of Falls City in a tidy 10-0 victory Sunday at Chandler Park. Kyle Porter pitched all four innings for the win and Tyler Miller and Dalton Harshaw homered as Holton improved to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the league.
Hiawatha traveled to Rossville for a double-header Sunday and lost 11-3 and 6-1. Daniel Kruse and Tanner Smith each pitched complete games for Hiawatha while Bryce Nigus had two hits and Smith added a pair of hits including an RBI double.
