We will look at the 3 boys teams that made it to state and look at their matchups and my predictions for the games.
Sabetha- Sabetha returns to the state tournament after a 3rd place finish and are looking to improve on that. The Blue Jays has a tough draw as they pulled perennial power Scott Community who is 18-5. Don't be fooled by the record as they are the defending 3A State Champions. While Scott Community did lose 4 seniors off of last years team they seem to reload every year. This year they are lead by Junior Bo Hess and Senior Dylan Hutchins who average 14.9 and 13.2 points per game respectively. Hess was a handful in during sub-state scoring 27 against Lakin then putting up another 25 against Sterling in the championship. As a team they average 55 points while allowing 45 points a game. If the Blue Jays can slow those two down they look to continue their tournament run into the semifinals on Friday.
My Pick: Sabetha 52-48
Hanover- The Wildcats return as the defending Class 1ADI Champions and the number 1 seed. They come in on a 11 game winning streak and have a first round matchup against St. Paul who is 11-12. The Indians came out of one of the weaker sub-state as they were the 2 seed going in and defeated a Flinthills team who was just 11-10 in a 76-66 OT championship game to make it to state. If Hanover is able to advance a possible meeting with Centralia could await in the semi-finals.
My Pick: Hanover 75-45
Centralia- The Panthers return to State after a 2 year hiatus. They come in as the 4 seed and draw 5th seeded Pretty Prairie. The Bulldogs were the 1 seed in thier sub-state and were able to navigate through it fairly easily. They are lead by 6'6" Senior Nick Lampe who is averaging 17 points and 12 rebounds per game. Lampe can be a tough guard as he has the ability step out and hit the 3. Fellow 6'2" Senior Dylan Bair has also chipped in 11.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The Panther big men will have to step up big for Centralia to advance.
My Pick: Centralia 52-51
